It's hard to be a god!
# Idea
Fly across solar systems hacking and configuring planets: their speeds, angular rotation, add gases, elements and stuff to make them more habitable (or not) so life could evolve there
#Plot
Once, in the emptiness of space you became aware of your self. What would you do?
Game goal is to create life. More importantly - intelligent life! As a greater being you can manipulate basic particles contributing them properly to planets to create perfect life conditions. You win the game, when there are more than 100 humans for some amount of cycles.
# How to play
- Collect solid resources from flying asteroids
- Apply collected resources to potential planets
- Monitor planet stats and apply resources accordingly.
- Every cycle planet stats and resources are converted
Example: If planet temperature is between 300 and 99999 and this cycle planet has generated at least 100 energy, than for every 100 energy left 2 Dirt/Rock and 2 minerals will be converted to 3 Breathable gases and 1 Other gas. - Depending on multiple parameters one set of resources can became another.
- The more perfect conditions - the higher is change to spawn life.
Planet temperature is different every other cycle, but in range of min. max. possible planet temperatures. Life spawns best around 200 - 400 Kelvin.
Every time life spawns - it also produces pure essence on a planet which increases chances to spawn life next.
In bad environment conditions life can start dying. That gives player dark matter and transfers some pure essence to players inventory. Later essence can be used to manually boost spawn change or even force life to spawn (not available yet).
There is a crafting recipes list that show all the possible conditions and combinations.
Planet resources and how they work (formulas are work in progress):
Distance to star | affects maximum and minimum planet temperatures |
Atmosphere | Contains of gases. Greenhouse gases trap heat increasing minimum temperature. Other gases reflect heat decreasing maximum temperature |
Planet rotation speed | The faster planet rotates - the more balanced temperatures will be. At maximum speed max. and min. temperatures should be equal. Speed mostly depends on solid heavy resources (their ratio) |
Basic resources | dirt and minerals mostly are used to produce breathable and other gases. Also, they are used as food for life. |
Assets were mostly taken from itch.io and them modified:
- https://deep-fold.itch.io/pixel-planet-generator - great tool. sadly allows only png extraction. Later need something like that to be built in game
- https://vectorpixelstar.itch.io/space - pixel art space backgrounds. Some of them even are animated
- https://karwisch.itch.io/pxui-basic - mostly were used as a template and modified using paint.net
- https://helianthus-games.itch.io/pixel-art-planets - provide 4 basic planets for free. (small ones in game). Not what I wanted at start, but now think I should have gone only with them and just modify them in-game, like scale, tint etc.

I hope you get to finish the content. very cool game
In progress! :)
Will update dev log in couple of days. With list and priorities if features I'm going to add to the game
OK, but, what does it do? What's the goal? I did a lot of clicking, and a lot of increasing things on planets, but it's not clear what effect any of it really had, and I don't even know what units the temperatures are in. (Kelvin? Centigrade?)
Sorry! Went sleeping after jam and than work. Never really got into writing any description. Will do in close future and also improve some aspects.
In short: Goal is to spawn and maintain life on the planet. Every resource somehow impacts it's stats. By contributing specific resources you can increase or decrease the chances for life to spawn.
Temperature and other resource units are nominal. I was counting temperature as Kelvin so that it won't be less than 0 as it helped thinking about formulas and effects.
Planned endgame goal for Jam was to spawn 100 humans. But In active version it is only Microorganisms (maybe plants, not sure already). And there is not any real endgame now :(
Will try to improve and also speak about game future on my next stream.
Thank you for writing a response! Means a lot to me! :)
Hey, I also recently submitted a game to a competition for the first time. Kudos on being strong enough to submit something, and on everything you've accomplished in this!
